Murray Robertson

Murray Robertson became a follower of Jesus during Billy Graham’s visit to New Zealand in 1959. After studying theology at Edinburgh in Scotland he became pastor of Spreydon Baptist Church in Christchurch in 1968. He and his wife Marj were in this role for 40 years. Initially Spreydon was a small struggling congregation, but today it is a large thriving church with extensive involvement in its surrounding community and an in depth commitment to global mission. In addition the church has planted several other congregations around Christchurch. It has been recognised that a strength of Murray’s ministry has been his commitment to Biblical preaching, and particularly the application of this teaching to various community and global issues. He is currently the leader of the

Phil King

Phil King has been a Presbyterian minister for 20 years, serving for six years in Waipukurau, Hawkes Bay  before coming to St. Margaret’s Christchurch, in 1996. He has also undertaken a year-long exchange to Canada in 1999. Phil is married to Keryn who has listened to most of his sermons and still comes to church with him every week – a pretty impressive record. In his preaching Phil always seeks to understand the meaning of the passage in its original context, and find a relevant application for it. His focus in his ministry has been to help the local church engage effectively with its community and to grow quality leaders for today’s generation. In recent years he has also engaged in ministry opportunities in a wider context in Vanuatu and Myanmar, and has nurtured a growing interest in ensuring the future church develops as a multi-cultural expression of the Kingdom of God.      View Phil's Media
